AHOY THERE ME HEARTIES

This September you could help provide a home for families and their children in cancer treatment.

Talk Like a Pirate Day™nationally recognised as the major fundraiser for Childhood Cancer Support, is an opportunity to polish ye hook and say “AHOY there, me hearties” to all ye mateys, school crew and work mates.

Talking or dressing up like a Pirate for a whole day might seem a little silly, right?

In reality, your silliness has a serious side to it.

In Australia, a child is diagnosed with cancer every 14 hours. Many of these families live in regional areas, and must travel to a major city for treatment. Often, this treatment takes place over months, or even years. It is an experience that no family should have to go through.

Unfortunately for Peta and her daughter Hayley, they did.

“Having to be away from our home in Townsville so Hayley can receive this treatment in Brisbane at the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital, for these last twelve months, has been hard. It is hard to be away from family and our old normal life. This new normal life we have while going through hospital stays, chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries has been made so much easier with the help from Childhood Cancer Support. It is not only the home that they provided us but thesupport they have also provided every step of the way which has been invaluable. With so much going on with appointments and treatment, just knowing that Childhood Cancer Support is there for you and your family through the ups and downs of coping with a child with cancer, takes a huge burden off of not having to worry about where we could stay."

Getting on board to Talk Like a Pirate throughout September will help Childhood Cancer Support to provide a home away from home for more families like Peta and her daughter Hayley.

So join the crew, grab ye mates and let's start raising some loot for the families who need it most!

Childhood Cancer Support Inc.

As one of Australia’s leading childhood cancer support organisations, Childhood Cancer Support is a not-for-profit family focused charitable organisation offering regional families a place to call home while their child undergoes life-saving cancer treatment.
